SERCT Special ICT projects in 2007

Student Led Professional Development
This project will run throughout the year and schools will be invited to send a team of 3 students and 1 teacher to the SERCT Centre to be trained in the use of a range of software applications. The students should then return to their school with the necessary skills to instruct other students/teachers in the chosen software. There is no charge for attendance however; schools choosing to be involved in his project will be required to complete a feedback report at the completion of their training. The feedback will be used by Office of Learning and teaching to inform future projects.

Re@ct Film Festival
Schools may register a team of students and a teacher to attend training sessions in the production of a short film using multimedia hardware and software. Instruction will be delivered by a professional film maker and will cover setting up, lighting, camera techniques, editing etc. This project will require the team to attend 1 full-day pre-production session, 1 full-day production session and 2 half-day editing sessions. The finale to this project is a ‘film screening evening’. There is a nominal charge per school team for participation in this project. Schools taking up this offer will be required to provide feedback in the form of a short report.

Digital Destinations - Cross Regional Project
This project has a limit on the number of schools that can participate. This is a collaborative project involving schools across five Regions. Students will use digital resources/equipment to communicate with other project members to create a multimedia presentation based on one of the following

• Wildlife - sustainability of a species
• Careers- suitable for secondary including VCAL and VET
• Environment -Bushfire regeneration - students taking images
• Effects of the drought – documentary style comparing rural and metro

Instruction will be delivered by a professional film maker and the final multimedia projects will be compiled and cut to DVD. Schools taking up this offer will be required to provide feedback in the form of a short report. You can  read about the project and complete an expression of interest here.

ICT Professional Development

A range of ICT courses will be delivered at the SERCT Computer Training Centre specifically for school staff. The courses being offered can be viewed on the SMR Connect PD site.

There will be regular updates to the site throughout the year so be sure to check regularly. An SMR Connect PD update electronic communication will also be sent to the school principal at regular intervals. The update will detail additional Professional Development as well as any amendments to existing PD.
